It's been two years since I last spent the end of the year in Kyoto.
Ultimately, "the best place to eat at this time of year" was the Yakisobu-chō Bettei in this restaurant.
My daughter’s boss is from Kyoto, and she taught me many delicious restaurants. One of them is a place where Kyoto-style grilled meat is served—it’s called “Kō”. Even the taxi driver said this place is definitely trustworthy. (This time, since it includes drinks, I left my car at the hotel and used Uber to get here.)
Well, the street-side shop where we arrived in Todō-cho looks just like a traditional geisha house—a place that makes one feel as if a geisha is standing there, looking charmingly inviting.
Opening the lattice door, one is immediately greeted by a completely different atmosphere—a luxurious private space on the second floor. The feeling of excitement that comes with the New Year’s Eve, as we move into the new year, intensifies even more.

Today’s Suggested Dessert
First of all, the staff member explained the menu carefully. It is said that you can enjoy various parts of a single beef by ordering it individually.
The presentation of the appetizers is truly beautiful.
Introduction: Using seared red meat for sushi is quite novel. Everyone gets excited about the process of applying a special soy sauce with a brush (laughs).
I received thick-cut slices of flavorful meat, accompanied by wasaibig and salt. The taste of the ingredients shines through.
This Kyoto-style tandoori salt dish features nine pieces of scallion. It is extremely tender, and despite being cut into thick slices, it offers a satisfying bite and is easy to eat.
And the brussels sprouts topped with dill oroshi becomes even more flavorful as you bite into it. The beef is truly easy to eat, thanks to the aroma of black pepper and its crisp texture.
このソーステクスチャは、ステーキ店レベルのすりおろし感を持ち、ジューシーで非常に美味しいです。
The sirloin and karbi are truly the king of dishes. Surprisingly, they were served quite fresh and clean.
And this time, we were surprised to see that our traveling buddy—a nearly 90-year-old mother who always said she had a hard time with grilled meat—finally got to try grilled meat. She even tried ton salt, and surprisingly, she even tried organs! Thanks to the kind support from the staff members… 😉
And since we are quite full after the meal, we can choose between cold noodles or Bibimab, or the broth. But if we really have no more appetite, we can enjoy the shop's special beef stew in the omiyaki. Since there are 5 of us, we ordered Bibimab, broth, and cold noodles. And for the remaining two dishes, we chose beef stew in omiyaki. What a kind gesture from the staff!
The dessert was not what we usually refer to as ice cream. Instead, it was homemade matcha panna cotta—and this was absolutely delicious.
The bill was actually just 7,000 yen per person! It would be great if there were such a restaurant even in Tokyo.
It should be a super busy time on New Year’s Eve, but the service provided by the staff was outstanding from beginning to end.
Well, let's get back to the title.
From the moment I made the reservation until my arrival, I didn’t think this restaurant could be considered a place with high satisfaction levels in any aspect. It was, in a sense, a case of being deceived by the “Yakiniku Hiro” – a restaurant located in Saitama City.
