I went to "Hakata Sushimi Matomo" located on the 2nd floor of a building in Nakajima, about 3 minutes walk from Tenjin South Station on Fukuoka City Subway. I visited there at 7:19 PM on a weekday, having been invited by a friend.
Just near the restaurant, there is the "Former Fukuoka Prefecture Public Hall - Guest House," which was built during the Meiji era and has been designated as a national important cultural asset. ♪
The interior of the restaurant was quite bright and luxurious. My luggage could be placed under the chairs. The chef greeted me with a gentle smile♪
The chefs are very professional; they speak in a quiet manner that makes it easy to communicate with them. It's truly amazing♪
The restaurant has a counter with 12 seats arranged in a “ku” shape, along with 4 private rooms. It was mentioned that by removing the partitions, these private rooms can be expanded to accommodate up to 10 people in each room.
The in-store background music is cheerful accordion music♪
Indeed, it’s a popular restaurant. There were two couples, along with one young woman and two men who visited the place.
Not only do customers usually come from South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore, but recently, many Westerners also visit. It seems that all the counter seats are occupied by foreigners.
Fukuoka City is also a popular city among foreigners♪
Especially due to the proximity in terms of distance, it seems that there are quite a lot Korean customers.
This restaurant has earned a one-star rating in the 2019 and 2020 editions of the Michelin Guide Tokyo. You can enjoy the world of traditional Edo-style sushi with red vinegar in a comprehensive menu.

◯ Fukuoka Prefecture Nijūchi's Ohga - Pure Mirin Blended Wine - Strong Flavor
This is a product from a sake distillery that was established in the year 1673, during the Enpō era in Fukuoka Prefecture. It’s one of the oldest sake distilleries in the region. This sake has a strong flavor and is perfect to pair with sushi. ♪
The food was something truly exceptional—we had pre-booked the “Superior Hand-Pulled Course” for 22,800 yen including taxes. ♪

Received Mie's citrus hebes and New Tokai's salt, making the kue quite fresh and delicious with rich fat and a beautiful appearance. ♪

The shrimp was quite fatty, but there was no unpleasant smell. It tasted delicious when eaten with green onions and ginger. ♪
◯ Cloud Dan Ika Tsumamin
With abalone and orangefish, the abalone on the right side is more concentrated compared to the male on the left side. ♪
It's the first time that the oysters were served separately, both the male and female oysters. I was really surprised♪
◯ Grilled dishes: Sugi-nabe of swordfish
It has rice grains attached to it, and the rice grains are fried, making the rice part look like a Pun snack with white color. It's delicious!

Being a Takoyaki dish is truly delightful. This tea bowl steamed dish is quite smooth, with the flavors of the broth perfectly integrated. Moreover, the powdered cheese that moderates the spiciness of the takoyaki complements the dish perfectly. It’s truly delicious! ♪

The grilled scallop is excellent; the meat is soft and fluffy, and the edges of the scallop are sweet and delicious. ♪

Perfectly suitable for hot green tea♪
After numerous attempts and trials, it seems that strawberries didn’t quite match the matcha in terms of taste. Ugh!
Additionally, the separate restrooms for men and women are quite impressive. It was wonderful to find facilities such as hand wipes and cotton balls available in these restrooms.
Payment can be made using a credit card, which was a great advantage as there was no need for cash at all. ♪
Also, on our way back, the chef personally greeted us with a gentle smile. I felt extremely honored to receive such a kind welcome from him. ♪
The "Hakata Sashimi Matomo" in Nakajima, Fukuoka City, is truly worthy of being featured on a Michelin-starred menu. The bright and luxurious interior is impressive, and the hospitality of the chefs is outstanding. Moreover, the wines, side dishes, and sashimi offered here are of high quality, delicious, and stunningly beautiful. It is definitely an excellent choice!
