It's always a long queue at Ushigami-san's restaurant. When I had some business in Kyoto and needed to decide what to eat for dinner, I suddenly remembered this place. I went ahead and found it before 16:45, so I decided to wait until then to get in the queue first. After 17:00, more and more people started lining up behind me, and in no time, there was a long queue. So I recommend going there early to get in the queue or making a reservation in advance. By the way, reservations can only be made by phone on the day of the visit, but they can be made up to one day before by using the website.
Since the restaurant opened, the number of groups allowed to enter the first floor has been indicated. There is also a second floor, so it seems that the store isn’t actually quite narrow.
This time, I ordered regular meat miso (rice with a large portion), and my husband ordered black beef meat miso (rice with a large portion). First, we ate the meat as it was. Then, we added seasonings. Finally, for the last dish, we ordered tea pickles. The food was delicious, and I managed to finish it without any leftovers. The sweet-and-sour sauce really blended well with the rice, making it easy to eat. However, even with a large portion of rice, the meat wasn’t packed too tightly. So, those who want to eat more should order extra meat to ensure a satisfying amount of food.
They were very polite and provided detailed explanations of the menu items. They also prepared pots of warm hōji tea and paper cups for those who stood in line outside, and the service was excellent. If you visit the area around Kawaramachi, I strongly recommend you to try this place at least once.
