From Mai Review, I heard that there are two African restaurants in Nishinomiya. So, I immediately made a reservation and went there.
A café-like shop with a charming appearance.
The interior of the restaurant is decorated with colorful fabrics.
I ordered a "desireful lunch" that perfectly suits my greedy nature.
A set including three types of main dishes.
ウガリ:白いコーンの粉を練ったもの。
I imagined it as something like Fufu’s sweet cakes or dumplings. It’s a type of bread that resembles steamed bread—soft, fluffy, and slightly airy. The flavor is subtle, making it a perfect staple food.
ワリワナジ:ココナッツの甘い香りがするご飯です。
Pirau: Rice cooked with beef. A delicious dish with a luxurious and powerful flavor.
This includes Mochuji (tomato stew),
Sambusa – something like spring rolls with meat and potatoes, similar to samosa.
On that day, we received an additional item as part of the Christmas service.
This dish includes a salad that resembles marinated tomatoes and onions.
I thought that Kachumbari is quite similar to the Indian dish Kachumbal. It seems that due to the influence of Indian immigrants, it was spread to Africa. Samosa and Pilaw also originated from there.
If you prefer spicy food, they served three types of chili as seasonings during the meal.
According to Swahili language, "pilipili" means chili peppers.
The yellow-colored sauce seemed to have a Peruvian-style ajiso sauce flavor, but it was completely different. I felt a strong greenish odor of vegetables, and the taste was spicy.
The green-colored sauce resembles Indian curry sauce in appearance, but it's completely different. Even in small amounts, it has a stinging, pungent taste.
The red one was said to be the most spicy, so I was too scared to try it.
After eating, I added African cola. All the spices are said to be of African origin.
It was a refreshing and delicious craft cola.
On the way back, they asked me to choose some cute souvenirs if I liked them.
I received a homemade magnet made using Tanzania beer crowns.
The dishes highlight the natural flavors of the ingredients. The seasoning is mainly based on salt, so there were no dishes with overly strong flavors. The interior of the restaurant is also very clean, and there are also African-themed products for sale. Therefore, this place is perfect for women's gatherings or date nights.
It would be nice to drink African beers and wines as well.
It was also enjoyable to hear the stories of the Tanzanian-loving owner of this restaurant.
