Visited for an early lunch on a weekday.
I arrived around 3:30 PM and went up to the second floor of the restaurant. There were three customers sitting at a four-person table, looking at the menu. Since I was on a diet, I was considering ordering the one-yen lunch option that was described as mini-sized. However, I noticed something interesting in the lunch menu. "Indian Navy Curry Set" @1,190 yen... What is this?
The Indian Navy Curry Set consists of potatoes and carrots in curry, or potatoes and cauliflower in curry. It can be served with naan or rice, along with salads and soft drinks.
If I ask the staff, they say, "The Indian Navy curry is filled with masala, and it's also full of spices." What the hell? Even though it's said that the curry served by the Indian Navy is packed with spices, there's no way to verify this claim...
It’s too mysterious, but since it’s an opportunity, I’ll order the Indian Navy Curry Set. The curry consists of potatoes and zucchini, served in a spicy sauce. As for the staple food, it’s a heart-shaped rice. I chose Lassi as my soft drink.
After waiting for 5 minutes, the salad, lassi, and soup for service were delivered. Eight minutes later, the curry placed in a kadai, as well as the heart-shaped rice, arrived.
The rice is colored with thyme, made from Japanese rice.
The salad consists of cabbage, lettuce, radishes, and cherry tomatoes, topped with a César dressing.
The soup consists of chicken meat, carrots, and green onions. It's delicious.
I ordered a curry of potatoes and aubergine, thinking it was Albeigan. But the curry I got was completely different from what I know of Albeigan. It wasn’t dry; instead, it was a creamy curry. There were also chives on top of the curry.
This curry has a moderate spiciness, with a noticeable sour taste. Surprisingly, it tastes quite good. The entire dish was served on rice shaped like a heart.
After finishing eating, a staff member came over and asked for my impressions regarding the spiciness of the dish. I was about to say something like "For CoCo Ichiban, it's around 1 on the spiciness scale," but there was absolutely no chance of my message being understood. So I simply replied, "It wasn't very spicy at all." The staff member then told me that there are levels 5 and 6, where the spiciness is even higher than level 5. I thought to myself, "I should have mentioned this when placing the order..." but I didn't say anything either, not with a face or through words.
Although the sushi was quite bland, it was a bit of a disappointment. Overall, however, it was a satisfactory lunch experience.
Next time, I would like to try the same Indian Navy curry set with potatoes and cauliflower-based curries (spicy level 7), rice, and mango lassi. Thank you very much.
