After eating yutaka and tonkatsu, I happened to pass by Yumoto. It seemed like they were serving kaki ice. So, I decided to stop by. When my daughter was still a year or two old, we often used the private room there. But in the past ten years, I haven’t been there very often. I really didn’t expect to find them offering kaki ice.
I was taken to a spacious room with a deep pit. There was only one person before me.
I ordered the ice matcha (with milk) for 900 yen. After a while, the matcha syrup and the milk were served in separate containers. According to the waiter, “To allow you to truly experience the natural ice, we didn’t add syrup at first.” This ice has a firm texture to it; it’s not too soft or fluffy, but it’s definitely in excellent condition. The matcha syrup was slightly sweet, but the kashiwa (ice cream) was extremely delicious. We were also given some mikanokoumi cookies as a bonus.
The total cost for payment is 900 yen, plus 10% tax and service fee, making the total amount 1069 yen. This place allows one to experience a small trip while enjoying delicious ice cream. The price is really quite reasonable, and it’s also nice that the place is empty right now.

I hadn’t been to this restaurant for a while, but since I can bring my children along without any worries, I decided to visit again after a long time. The cost of the meal was 12,000 yen. The dishes served today are as follows:
Previous: Eto Matsushita Steamed Food, Eggplant & Kale Rolled, Miso Soup
This dish includes grilled catfish, tofu with eggs, Shin Shunzai, snake-eyed white melons.
Oshirori: Sashimi, Tuna, Abalone
Grilled Dishes: Fukko Seven-Spice Grilled Chicken, New Maru Lemon Stew, Pickled Watercress, Lotus Root and Various Tofu Dishes
Stew: Kaumoe eggplant sesame tofu, clam, rolled seaweed, green radish, wakame, kame-anko
Side dishes: Wagyu long yams with plum sauce, shrimp fried potatoes, and windproof food.
Meat dishes: Wasabi salmon dressing, asparagus, shallots, ponzu sauce
Lunch: Muzuku miso soup, Minjinmitsuboshi, aromatic ingredients
Delicious desserts: Mango jelly, loquat, American cherry
Overall, the food was not bad, and the children were happy to eat it. There were several ladies in hanbok wearing traditional Japanese dresses who were called to other rooms. When we passed by each other, they spoke to the children, which made them very happy.
The following is a review from July 2006.
Sakura is a place with profound charm. I had no idea that there were restaurants with such wonderful atmospheres.
Upon entering the large gate, there is a pond where kago carp swim freely. The atmosphere here makes it seem completely different from the rest of Tokyo. Even inside the restaurant, the rooms are well-maintained; the tables are beautiful, and there’s also a courtyard, creating a pleasant ambiance. Perhaps this is why it is often used as a location for filming TV dramas. Moreover, the staff here are very professional.
The cuisine is a set meal that differs from the well-seasoned Kyoto-style dishes. It costs starting at 10,000 yen, and although it’s not special, it’s still very delicious.
By the way, today's menu is as follows.
First item: Black Sesame Tofu, Empty Beans, Hina An (Rich Sesame Tofu)
Service Bowl: Snake-bellied tilapia, white yam stems, white melons, green pomelo (flavors with straight-smoked broth)
Miyazori Sashimi Tuna, Hukko, Hiramasa (The sashimi is small but of high quality.)
Cold dishes: Sazae Kukui, Winter Melon Stew, Shrimp and Clam Confection, Makiura
Fried dishes: Fukuko fried oroshi-yaki; Cucumber marinated in various flavors; Saza.
Small dishes: Two-flavor salmon sushi, roasted eggplant, tofu, fragrant sesame oil.
Warm dishes: Fried catfish and Kaga cucumber; Miso soup with wakame. The taste is a bit monotonous.
Meat dishes: Chidano, Nanban Nakke, Snake Eye Sweet Potato, Young Corn, Spice Ginger, Tosa Vinegar Jelly (The sourness is great and serves as a good appetizer.)
Lunch: Cold Shredded Mee-Shrimp, Chard, Sesame Oil, Squeeze of Fresh Ginger
Watery desserts: White peach mousse with raspberry and mint
Being a private room, it’s fine for families with children. The decorations are quite impressive, so while there’s a concern that children might damage them, considering the overall atmosphere and this price point, I think the satisfaction is extremely high.
