Just 5 minutes’ walk from JR Sakurakita Station, this “Mutsuki-ya” restaurant was founded in 1945 (Showa 20). The family that owns the restaurant is the Murtaka family.
This restaurant was established in the aftermath of the war, emerging from the ashes of destruction. It is a famous establishment that has captivated many people in Noma. Among its specialties, the salmon is truly delicious. This is a restaurant I have visited several times personally.
I made the inquiry around 7 p.m. on a weekday.
Upon entering the restaurant, there were only about 30% of tables occupied, so I was directed directly to a table seat without having to wait!
I ordered sashimi of whale, as well as saezuri (a type of fish), and my favorite dish—sashimi of salmon. While sipping the cold sake little by little, the dishes were served one after another.
Wow〜 How nostalgic!
This is what I really wanted to eat.
The sashimi of whale meat is not frozen; it uses fresh ingredients, so it's simply delicious! It has a flavor similar to that of horse meat, and it's very enjoyable to eat.
The sashimi has a unique texture that is soft and plump. When you bite into it, the sweetness of the fatty part spreads throughout your mouth. It’s delicious when eaten with yuzu miso, but it also pairs well with ginger soy sauce!
The sashimi of salmon is also fresh, with a rich and delicious fat content. When I actually tasted it, the fat melted in my mouth, making it an extremely delicious dish. However, there is no trace of dryness; this is a truly excellent salmon.
Since the salmon and herring are so delicious, it's no wonder that I couldn't stop drinking! I was supposed to finish just one cup of cold sake, but before I knew it, I had already drunk three cups in no time.
By the way, I've never eaten eel at the Murata family's restaurant before, so this time I'm going to give it a try and eat eel.
