Booked at I-Resort
At a price of 15,915 yen, but includes 1 drink for just 9,800 yen.
The restaurant does not have a parking lot. The nearest parking space costs 400 yen for 15 minutes.
The parking lot at the international conference center is affordable and highly recommended!
The restaurant is located on the path to Nanzen-ji Temple, next to Shunzheng.
It has become a parking lot, with the restaurant located at the end of a long entrance road.
I came here early, so I took my time to stroll through the unopened garden. It’s a garden created by a collaboration between Ogawa Mitsuhiko and the 12th generation of the Kado-ryō-cha tradition, Kado Takezō Kinshū’s Yūzutsu. It’s completely different from any of Ogawa Mitsuhiko’s gardens I’ve seen before.

Although there were some changes, it was a pity that there was no longer any comfort or relief.
The cuisine is traditional Kyoto-style. There are no surprises or highlights.
The restaurant’s rating seems unclear even for the staff themselves.
The room was decorated with white camellias as floral decorations.
Please remove it.

“桜鶴苑”是位于京都著名寺庙“南禅寺”参道上的餐厅兼婚礼场地。其起源可以追溯到作为近代著名美术商社“山中商会”创始人的山中定次郎的宅邸而建造的“看松居”。该宅邸的庭园由第七代小川治兵卫(植治)负责设计,建筑则由茶道武者小路千家第十二代传人木津宗詮操刀。作为南禅寺周边别墅群的一部分,只有参与用餐或婚礼活动的人士才能参观其庭园。
The Kanzōkyō residence, built in 1917 (the 6th year of the Taisho era), was the home of Nakazōjirō Yamakoshi, who became the first president after taking over the responsibilities of overseas expansion from the person in charge of Yamakoshi Trading Company.
In 2005, it was opened as a wedding venue called “Sakura Tsuru Garden” by Watabe Wedding. Within the premises, there is also a new building designed by interior designer Naoki Iijima. However, even within this former mansion, guests can still enjoy meals.
A garden sprawling across a land area of 1,200 pyeong, created by the seventh-generation master gardener, Ogawa Mitsube. It can be considered a standard example of a garden with a pond and flowing water, drawing inspiration from the flow of Lake Biwa’s waters and utilizing the scenic views of Mount Tozan.
Ascending the hill, one encounters a garden path filled with natural charm. On the flat ground, there is a terrace connecting two tea houses that also served as venues for the "Tōshan Daicha" event. Just walking along the garden path, one can enjoy a delightful change in scenery! Although the name now includes "cherry blossoms," originally, it was named after "pine trees." The main tree species here is pine.
Additionally, another person involved in this garden project was Kiyozawa Junza. In the Sumitomo residence in Osaka, known as “Keizawa Garden,” these two worked together. However, their collaboration wasn’t limited to architecture alone. The list of Junza’s works includes references to this garden. Therefore, it seems that the garden was not solely the work of Uchida, but also a joint effort by both of them.
The original text describes features that resemble the prototypes of gardens seen earlier, such as paving stones and other elements that give a sense of naturalness. Additionally, there’s a stone-built gate located in the center of the garden, as well as a curved walkway in front of the tea house, which is a unique feature found in few other gardens with a naturalist style.
I feel that the preferences of Yushi, who is a connoisseur of tea, are reflected in this area. Moreover, these elements serve as a spice to Zhi’s garden… In other words, it feels like this garden is strongly characterized as an “area for tea” or a “garden.” It’s truly a masterpiece!
According to the official information about Sakura Tsuru-en, only the name of Uchiki is mentioned. In modern Japanese gardens, being associated with Uchiki constitutes one of the brand/identities. On the other hand, the name of Kizu Tsune-sa is rarely seen. However, considering his status as a "tea master" at that time, it can be inferred that Kizu Tsune-sa was likely the person who developed this garden (including its architecture).
In 2021, Watabe Wedding became part of the pharmaceutical manufacturer Kowa Group.
